Milkweed Blocks in Progress

In March, I posted my Milkweed Pods woodblock print that was selected for the 2013 Pyramid Atlantic Members Exhibition. They are part of an ongoing series, and I've been working on blocks for a companion to this print.

This is the key block, inked with burnt umber.

I printed the key block, then hand-colored the proof with Caran d'Ache watercolor crayons to work out my plans for the color blocks and use as a guide.

Here are four of the five color blocks. The 5th one (not shown here) is burnt sienna.

This is my most recent working proof. I still have some small changes to make to the blocks, but I'm really excited about how the colors are coming out, especially in the layering of transparent color.

Final image and edition coming soon!

I'm a woodblock printmaker who is committed to a non-toxic (or less toxic) art practice. I started out as a painter but found my way to printmaking through a love of paper and process. I seem to be falling for papermaking in the same way. I went to Syracuse University, where I studied painting (BFA) and museum studies (MA). I was a Resident Artist at the Howard County Center for the Arts for five years and previously worked at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. This blog is for posting works-in-progress and new works, as well as a few creative projects I've done with my kids.
